Pop star Bad Bunny needed a Puerto Rican history scholar. UW–Madison had just the one. Bad Bunny collaborated with UW–Madison history professor Jorell Meléndez-Badillo on Puerto Rican narratives that accompany the new album “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.”

Not at all surprised to learn that Bad Bunny has a historical adviser. His halftime show was a reminder that our history and culture are deeply intertwined with the rest of the western hemisphere. We should think of his performance as part of #America250. #SuperBowl

There is a major political organization allied with the president that got so mad a Latino artist was tapped to play at the Super Bowl they made a whole alternative show. We should all take a moment to reflect on that. It is so blatantly racist.

Trump is so narcissistic and predictable. But we shouldn’t lose sight of what a malign force he Is.

So there are 65 million people in the US who identify as Hispanic or Latino. 45 million people speak Spanish at home. We have the second largest Spanish-speaking population in the world. Bad Bunny has sold over 123 million albums and LA CANCIÓN has 2.4 billion streams. He is bigger than Fox News.

so much of our present misery is just a giant, prolonged backlash to integration
