Almost home from a fabulous few days in Cambridge for the in-person component of #BARS2025. Many thanks to all who came, and to friends old and new, for a great many wonderful panels and enriching conversations!

Among many brilliant papers, highlights include our keynote lecture, 'On Conscious Repetition in Romantic Poetry', from Dr Joanna Neilly (Oxford), and a plenary roundtable on alternative academic careers.

What an inspiring 2 days in Cambridge!

The generosity of thought, depth & breadth of discussion, & the diversity of perspectives created space for truly insightful dialogue at this conference, an inspiring exchange we hope continues well beyond Trinity Hall.

Had an amazing time at my first ever BARS conference @bars.bsky.social + @bars-ecrs-pgrs.bsky.social presenting on Cowper, botanical literatures and greenhouses at Trinity Hall, Cambridge 🌱✨ Brilliant people and brilliant papers giving me so much to think about! St John’s + Wren library were a treat

My favorite part of this was seeing Coleridge’s marginalia in the first edition LB making changes to the Rime

And also just the building itsellf 😍

The hotel register in which Shelley declared he was going to “L’Enfer”, and was a lover of humanity, democrat, and atheist.

1798 and 1800 editions of Lyrical Ballads, the former with Coleridge’s own annotations.

A letter claiming to be Lord Byron’s first. The postscript reads, “I hope you will excuse all blunders as it is the first I ever wrote.”

After a brilliant day of papers and a monograph workshop at our PGR & ECR conference, Trinity College let us see some of their collection in the Wren Library, including PB Shelley’s famous register entry from the Hotel de Villes de Londres!
