so far below “normal” snow levels here i cannot even fathom that it is February 1. instead of 3 feet, which is for 4 decades typical at my home in winter, there is less than 3 inches on ground, melting off to dirt even in the shade. today, mud, standing water. warm. eating dinner with door wide open

we pour tap water (hauled from town) or snowmelt thru a big brita filter unit. many big slobber dogs here-water bowls changed constantly. cant envision an in line water filter that would work right for hair, dust, slobber😳following

raised my kids here. rural western CO. back when it used to snow. same. small cabin, domestic water= mostly roof runoff, heating w/wood. no fridge, simple gas cookstove. kids grown. now i cook on woodburner, use virtually no propane, bathe with snowmelt heated on woodburner. it doesnt snow much now😢

happily off grid, meeting 100% of our own household energy needs for four decades. when panels get snow covered in cold months, we save stored battery energy (by using little or no electricity) til sun melts snow off. “normal” structures using “regular” electricity seem so over the top sometimes. ☀️💡
