I have stopped trying to make sense of his team selection calls. They drop someone and come to press conferences and say, "no, we didn't drop this player. He is just not a part of our best playing XI". These 2 things mean the exact same thing to everyone, but apparently not to him.

So, I am savoring these victories as much as I can haha.. But now that I think back, I do kinda agree with you. Gabba is probably hard to beat.

Also, I have a feeling that this team won't have a lot of success overseas just because of Gambhir's defensive mentality. It could easily have been Siraj instead of Woakes with a broken shoulder. We went with just 3 frontline bowlers. Akash had an under-whelming game, so effectively 2.

Lord's 2021 will always have a special place in my heart. For a lot of reasons. but there we had a world-beating pace attack (Bumrah, Shami, Siraj, Ishant). Shardul was pretty good through that series as well. This one was mostly just Siraj and Krishna. This win is a tad more special for that reason

The last hour on day 4 and the 56 minutes on day 5 were unlike anything I have ever seen before. I will grudgingly put this above Lords' 2021 (which was spectacular btw) and also Gabba 2020. There is something breathtaking about great fast bowling. Siraj was like a ghost. England couldn't touch him.

Wow, 2 successive posts about cricket in the NYT ?! Also, apart from a handful of English people (Daniel Norcross, Bumble Lloyd etc), I think the position of the cricketing world on handshake-gate is more or less unanimous.
