I went to Manchán Magan's funeral today. It was really something- all the emotions from humour to sorrow. Lovely tributes paid. Some of the great trad musicians played. He was carried out of the church to thunderous cheers and applause.

I've never seen anything like the sense of loss for our very much loved Manchán Magan - thousands of posts on social media. He awakened swathes of the Irish people & lit a path to discovering our language, land, heritage & a deeper meaning to life.

Interesting to observe the dynamic in the Gaeltacht. Most Irish speakers switching to English; few English speakers attempting the basics in Irish.
Irish doesn't pose any threat to English, but the current sociolinguistic norms pose a threat to Irish.
