FORDHAM FACULTY UNITED UNITED BARGAINING BULLETIN Collective Bargaining Session 6: May 6, 2025 Next Bargaining Session: May 14, 10am LL 140W G73 Management gave us their counter proposal on compensation: 3% raises. THIS IS NOT ENOUGH! • For full-timers, 3% doesn't cover the 2023 increase in our health insurance contributions-negotiated without our input and about to go up again! • For part-timers, 3% is a few hundred dollars a semester at most. Join us! FFU bargaining sessions are open to all FFU member faculty. What's next? We will continue to negotiate for a fair wage. We have one more session this month, on May 14, and will schedule more in June. BUT our contract expires on June 30. At our last bargaining session, management responded to our compensation proposal with 3% raises across the board. THIS IS NOT ENOUGH! Fordham continues to fall behind other institutions in the city and even behind our peer institutions across the country.

The ChatGPT-driven disruption of education is often presented, including in today’s viral NYMag piece, as a surprise event for which ed workers were caught unprepared
This ignores dynamics & decisions that, in some cases, go back decades, without which we could’ve metabolized ChatGPT competently
🧵
"As the disruption has mounted, many college and university presidents have kept silent. But unions representing higher ed employees have stepped up to the plate (...) Union leaders say they are filling a void in an existential fight for higher ed’s future."

1) increase minimum wage.
2) right of workers to unionize.
It’s dystopian. And it’s a bunch of lies. Don’t fall for this.

Today, May 1, is International Workers' Day! It commemorates the sentencing to death of eight anarchist workers in Chicago who were framed for throwing a bomb at police who attacked a strike demonstration in May 1886 shop.workingclasshistory.com/products/the...

FORDHAM FACULTY UNITED BARGAINING BULLETIN Collective Bargaining Sessions 4 & 5: April 15 & 25, 2025 Next Bargaining Session: May 6, 10am LL South Lounge We have finished presenting proposals. Join us! In the last session, management agreed that we can show support for other unions without fear of discipline. We are waiting for management's response on compensation, which they FFU bargaining sessions are open to all FFU member faculty. expect to provide at our next bargaining session on May 6. Please attend this important session to show that FFU is united in our fight for a fair wage! FFU's proposals focus on the priorities that members shared in our fall 2024 survey: 1. Higher compensation that helps with inflation and cost of living, particularly for Full-Timers, who received little in our last contract due to rising health insurance costs. This is the #1 priority and our main goal in these negotiations. 2. Transparency in evaluations, promotions, and appointment decisions. 3. Better job security by shortening the probationary period. 4. Increasing full-time positions and creating a stronger path for members to move into these positions. "It seems unfair to the students who pay full tuition that they are instructed by someone who's being paid less than 1/3 of what a full-time faculty member is paid. We could devote more time to these students if we were paid proportionally." The most important and urgent issue is to fight for significant salary increases. What we are currently paid is not enough to live in this city. The last raise wasn't as significant as it may seemed percentage terms—it didn't make a real difference in net pay for Lecturers.
