No that misses the main point entirely: New housing that is inclusive by design housing breaks down exclusion. Ensures fair share of access to places that are building, growing & thriving to those who can benefit most. And exposure to mixed income peers critical for kids, especially poor children.

Zoning reform essential to build anything, but both views flawed in assuming dichotomyβ€”market rate OR subsidized. We can build mixed income. Evidence is conclusive that mixed income housing & n-hoods is needed for healthy child development & upward mobility. IZ a tool to do that & there are others.

Not surprising. Grew up in a hockey crazed town in Massachusetts during the Bobby Orr & Phil Esposito era & love hockey. But male hockey players are notoriously conservative and cosplay machismo.

A vote for freezing the 1969 boundaries of the Baltimore Co URDL isn’t a vote for preserving nature. Its a vote for preserving Spiro Agnew’s racial redline & preserving the faux-plantation β€œresort style lifestyle” enjoyed by the top 10. While driving up housing costs for the 90%.

I’m sure that isnt true IRL, but it sometimes seems that way on here. And same can be said for many supply skeptics on the left. Both disparage each other w/ unduly simplistic talking points instead of finding room for alliances. Its tiresome.

Then thats a problem because its never going to happen at broad scale. Fortunately, thats not what the article says.

β€œOver the last year, we're all trying to build housing, I think, as quickly as possible, because we've got to drive down housing prices around the country.” @massgovernor.bsky.social Maura Healey on housing affordability at #NGAWinterMeeting.

3/ Infill housing, like houseplexes and townhouses, offer a great option for young families seeking larger, ground oriented, homes in quiet streets. Kids shouldn't have to play on arterials and breath brake lining dust.

oh you can't afford where you live? just move!

so many people actually hate others trapped in poverty. with groceries, fuel, utilities, and rent increases what was a very meager existence six years ago isn't possible today. there's no fat to trim. there's no supports to cover the widening gaps.

If HUD Sec’y Scott Turner contends ousting 35,000 lawful non-citizens from public housing will make a meaningful dent in local waiting lists he is sadly delusional. If he truly wanted to make a difference he would be spending his time trying to win increased appropriations to make a real difference.

Despite court rulings that limit the ability of local & state governments to fight federal actions, there are avenues cities can take to contest ICE that might work, including by controlling zoning & building permits. Exciting to see so many cities pushing back.

Given the nationwide slump in multifamily construction, any claim that blames local IZ, rent stabilization or other regulation for the slump is disingenuous.

Plus AOBA & the MD multifamily lobby are like the boy who cried wolf.

Study shows Frederick needs 31,000 new homes by 2035 to fill its β€˜housing gap’ 1-in-5 Frederick households are cost burdened, earning $75,000 or less per year and spending more than 30% of their income just to afford their home.

Suburbanization of Frederick Co is example of leap frog development. Growth boundaries in MoCo, HoCo & Baltimore Counties dont end housing demand, just push it farther out. Now Frederick Co is state’s fastest growing w/ need for 31,000 new homes (1/3 for <60% of AMI).

Instead of enforcing the Fair Housing Act during the nation's fair and affordable housing crisis, the Trump Administration is attacking a key fair housing rule that ensures people are not segregated from opportunity.

"The upshot is this: If Congress bans institutional investors from owning homes, at best it will probably have no effect on housing costs for normal people. At worst, it could raise costs, at least in rental markets where these mega-investors might have otherwise added more housing stock."πŸ‘‡

Trump and Turner are just exploiting the housing crisis to continue their power grab. Instead of setbacks, we all need solutions - including the 200,000 families and countless others across the country who could lose their homes if this HUD proposal is made law.

This is what affordable housing looks like today. Yet the media contributes to stereotypes by continuing to use outdated photos of 1950’s era projects to illustrate articles about affordable housing.

Lincoln’s Exemplary TIF: Weatherizing Rentals Without Pricing Tenants OutΒ  - Good Jobs First In Lincoln, Nebraska the city is using Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to help landlords improve rental housing to keep those units affordable.

Lincoln, Nebraska is taking an unusual approach with Tax Increment Financing: it's using the program to boost its affordable housing stock.

Landlords get $15,000 per unit, and in exchange must accept vouchers & keep rents below HUD limits for 20 years.

Yes β€œlimits on housing in Baltimore Co” push new housing development to farmland in Harford Co & the E. Shore. But we dont need leapfrog development & a multi-billion $$ new bridge to meet housing needs. Instead we can make rational changes to the County’s URDL & suburban exclusionary zoning.
