Battery failures return to haunt Google's Pixel A lineup β now the Pixel 6a is catching fire
Some Pixel 6a users are reporting battery explosions, adding to a string of battery issues plaguing Google's A-series phones. Read on!
What's happening with the Pixel A-series? This is the third report of the Pixel 6a catching fire. This comes after Pixel 4a's battery update/overheating risk, Pixel 7a's swollen battery, Pixel 9a's mandatory battery health update

..to protect users from installing harmful apps, and Appleβs insistence on keeping things familiar at the risk of stagnation β it actually makes the iPhone 16e a better recommendation for them. Itβs not for me (and mostly for you too), but it makes sense for them.

Itβs clear to me that the iPhone 16e is not for me. But for someone less tech-savvy, less tech-inclined, like my parents for example, it makes for a good recommendation. Add to it the usual iPhone bonus points like Appleβs excellent after-sales service and service network, better guardrails on iOS..

The biggest sore point on the iPhone 16e for me is undoubtedly the 60Hz display. I notice it all the time. I eventually got used to the thick bezels, but thereβs no escaping the slower refresh rate. The lack of MagSafe also means I donβt get to use my favorite MagSafe accessories

What I liked about the iPhone 16e is the Apple A18 chip thatβs pretty damn good, and its relatively compact size and lightweight characteristics. Its single rear camera is not perfect, but it reminds me of simpler times when smartphones werenβt so complicated.

Yes, there are plenty of Android phones that do it better, and for cheaper too. But that does not change the fact that for some people, the iPhone 16e is the perfect device. This niche of people uses their phones as no-nonsense tools to get the job done, and thatβs it.

The iPhone 16e is definitely not the iPhone for everyone, but to say that itβs not a good phone for anyone would be wrong, too. The iPhone 16e works for a specific niche of people who want an iPhone that does the basics right without burning a big hole in their pocket.

One year later, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is still ripping a hole in people's pockets β literally
Galaxy S24 Ultra's sharp corners are ripping people's jeans. Thankfully, Samsung has fixed this with the S25 Ultra's rounded corners.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra's sharp corners are really bad. I had similar issues, though I sold the phone/swapped out before the damage to my jeans became this noticeable. The bigger pain point was the phone digging into my wrists

I have no intentions of purchasing the Galaxy S25 Ultra (I've owned all S Ultra since S21U, and it was getting stale), but the new Home Up update is a breath of fresh air, and so unlike Samsung. Fine-tuned animations? Insanely nerdy and overkill, but damn. Good job, Samsung!

...why do we want uncomfortable-to-hold, 'Slim' smartphones with sub-par battery and other compromises?
The S24/S25 remain are pretty decent thickness. The weight can go down, and their shapes could improve before Samsung has to go around mindlessly, shaving off millimeters.

Everyone is trying to do too much and failing to do any of it well enough. Go back to the drawing board and start with the question: "How easy is it for someone to buy my product?" And no, just an "Add to cart" button is not the answer

Don't even get me started on how broken the OEM websites are in tracking the product lineup, the possible spec combinations, and the damned price, if it's even in stock in the first place coz you are still trying to sell models from 2022 and 2023.

Buying a Windows laptop from Amazon (or elsewhere) remains a harrowing exercise in 2025. There are so many variations and so much technical jargon to sift through that it induces the paradox of choice and decision paralysis. Apple's simpler lineup feels like a breath of fresh air
