So they need the ultimate Infomercial White Person to sell it: someone for whom life is so hard they can't even dream of acting on their own, but somehow not so hard that it hasn't just taken them out already.

Generative AI is the ultimate infomercial product. Its use cases are so niche that for all intents and purposes it's useless to the entire population, but its costs are so high that it needs the entire population to buy and buy dear.

And so is born the Infomercial White Person, a creature who has no meaningful disability but is so incompetent that the basic functions of life are a titanic struggle that can only be solved by a plastic widget that puts their socks on for them.

A lot of the products sold on infomercials are assistive devices for people with limited mobility. There aren't actually a lot of those people so in order to recoup production costs they need to also sell to people who aren't disabled.

ok so i actually know somebody non-disabled who does this and i can tell you: if someone's determined to cheat the system, NOTHING is going to stop them. able-bodied cheaters have the energy to jump through all the hoops. making things harder only gatekeeps accommodations from people who need it.
