Roland Barthes declared the βdeath of the authorβ, but postcolonial critics have begged to differ
Roland Barthesβ notion that the author is dead has been incredibly influential, though it was not as original or revolutionary as it seemed.
I wrote, for the Conversation an article in their Cultural Thouchstones series which is as much on Roland Barthes as on his anticolonial reception. I'm interested in all of your thoughts.

In 2025 it is now the Arab (and the Persian), transnationally who is imagined to be the threat to domestic middle class economic prosperity in the first World.

I don't want to get too highfalutin but Sartre on antisemitism ironically pointed to this exact phenomenon. For the antisemite in, say 1937, the Jewish subject was imagined to be a threat to national, especially middle class prosperity.

I love how financial news reports the assault on Gaza or Israeli violence in Lebanon and Iran etcetera as just some kind of variable in the stock market or impacting oil prices. It's sickening in its inability to see a suffering face. It's the cost of living, my dears.

Point: AI has to be used better and to prepare students for a changing world through having them respond to AI produced work.
Counterpoint: AI wrecks thinking and writing.
if we only have students do assignments predicated on point 1 we don't prepare students to drive poesis, but to drive mimesis.

Public universities require some form of institutional neutrality. They cannot survive as partisan institutions.
But there's no way for universities to achieve neutrality if one party is flatly anti-intellectual, nativist, and fascism-curious. They cannot be neutral in relation to that.
