Manaus sits on the banks of the Amazon River, surrounded by rainforest that is increasingly shaped by human activity. In this landscape, Leishmania parasites—and the sand flies that transmit them—are shifting from their original wildlife hosts, such as sloths, into farms and human-modified forests.
