If they'd had a blooper reel at the end credits I think The Four Seasons could've closed in on The Cannonball Run box office haul.

'Adolescence' Is Harrowing, Heartbreaking, and a Must-Watch Four single-shot episodes tell the story (co-written by star Stephen Graham) of a boy accused of murdering a classmate and its effect on his family.

Every episode of Netflix's Adolescence was filmed in one take. And that's not even the most impressive part of this relentless, astonishingly acted examination of a British teen accused of a terrible crime. My review:

So much stuff that feels like Classic Vonnegut. Was hovering above the seat the whole time in Mickey 17.

Excellent episode. Last week's was too. Have not been disappointed at all in this season. And I went into this season fearful it could never live up to the expectations. Not at all what I was expecting storywise the way they've essentially avoided showing the four working at their desks most of it.

Panel 2, a reverse of the previous on the figures around the fire, revealed to be a man with a beard, wrapped in his red blanket, and at his shoulder, the other, a mid-teens woman. The man speaks in French, “C’est eux. Va avertir les autres."

Panel 3 - Following the two unidentified figures, still being led along the street by the third. To the left, on the side of a building, we see a massive digital display — The Post — the text in French. Two headshots, one of Forever Carlyle, the other of an unidentified woman, are visible. The discernible text reads, “Alerte De Securite” and “Terroristes Soupçonnés Recherchés Far Les Forces De Sécurité."

Instantly one of my favorite westerns. I was aware of McCrea but had never watched a Randolph Scott film, I believe. If the rumors of a love affair w/ Scott & Cary Grant are true then I am all for it. There's also a very Han Solo vibe to his character in Ride The High Country. ****

I'm really glad I never saw Jack Lemmon get Marvel superhero abs.

Feeling called out

This week's #MastersOfTheAir is one of the most riveting hours of television you will watch this year. AppleTV+ dropped Friday's episode early if you're so inclined. You won't need coffee.

#TheLongestYard Burt 's so drunk & enraged in the beginning. The Skynyrd song playing as he's melting down and terrorizing a whole city, just perfect. I like that he's in prison for a reason. He wasn't conveniently framed for anything to make us like him. He's a public menace.

Oh, for fuck's sake. Cutting off Nazis is not censorship! Freedom of speech does not mean freedom to be published wherever you want to be published. Hateful words are still allowed to have consequences. My newsletter's free, so Substack gets no money from it. But probably time to find a new home.
