Happy Fri-YAY to me! After a long week, one of my Muslim students gifted sweets from their families "breaking of the fast" (for Ramadan). With respect towards their faith practices, I waited until sundown to share these delicacies with the hubby! Chocolate dates yum! #themoreyouknowthemoreyougrow

My middle school campus "stole" your idea after I shared it & have gone schoolwide doing this approx. every 2 weeks. My math students are required to CC me. So far, the home adults are LOVE it (many reply back to their child with encouragements). Like Marcus, never going back!

I LOVE having "those" kids in my class. One, they keep me honest. Two, they model that even "experts" make mistakes. Three, they provide me the opportunity to model "checking your work"& "critical thinking" as well as "owning your mistakes" & "growing from them." Did he open with, "my Dad writes..

Also, where I grew up, Southern Baptists were quick to inform anyone who would listen that Catholics aren't Christians, so there's that wrinkle to all of this as well.

Yep. For a team that's been near perfection all season, they had huge lapses thru the entire second half. HC even lost his signature look for a while. I'll take the "escape" win for them.

Definitely! Baking aside, all other recipes are just ideas to be tweaked to taste (or what you have on hand). And like you, can't recall a time when that method failed me.

True. I was deliberately throwing some "gas on a fire" - esp since @mathowitz.bsky.social frequently cooks. Mixed works well for recipes too & the ability to double/half a recipe is handy. Mixed operation ability wins there too. Also, we all need to be comfortable doing certain things we hate!

improper fractions>mixed numbers every time - change my mind as the saying goes; also, spoiled in my area because we are close to one of the best places in the US to get shawarma - a place called Afrah, run by Lebanese brothers, featured on Triple D, which, might be where I land for lunch on Monday.

@mathowitz.bsky.social, hopped into my car-early departure from school today & caught NPR's "new music" segment. Jaw happily dropped hearing "Heavy Foot." Mon Rovia's debut album, "Bloodline" dropped today. They did a phenomenal job showcasing him & his music. The timing, sadly, seems perfect.

Corollary - neither has a "safe" spot in their current spots due to the gerrymandering. But, yeah, there are plenty of Dems in Texas who would love to see both in larger roles and the "purple" to become a trend that sees more balanced representation.

Issue 2: the same divide exists in my state as at the national level - do Dems put up a "safe" candidate that draws independents and soured Reps or a candidate that will "excite" the base. There was talk of one running against our current Gov, but his numbers are high enough he's considered safe.2/3

It's tied to the same two issues the state has had for years (working on decades now), plus a corollary. Issue 1: We are supposedly a "purple state" that might place more Dems in office "if only" more people got out to vote and gerrymandering was less of an issue. 1/3

LOL! I spent a solid amount of time during the Ewer years defending him. He's smart & athletic (although I'll grant he isn't a "fast" runner). It's not his fault he rarely had a decent OL and coach(es) still on HC learning curves. I love that he is getting a chance to show his merit as a pro now.

This is the Manning all the "experts" thought Texas would have in August. I was a "burnt orange" outcast all season because I knew he would need at least a year to mature - even with the "pedigree." I also think there was an intangible driving him - Google 1997 Citrus Bowl MVP.

Call me a "Boomer"(I am Gen X) but I HATE it! That includes the NIL & transfer portal too. And, yes, I know the why & it's far more fair to the college players; but, there's a quality that is also lost in all of it. Watching a college team DEVELOP as a team. Being able to afford attending a game. :(

Because we grew up in an area with, literally, a Southern Baptist church on nearly every corner, we bordered on being "outcasts" for both "sins"! My Mom's servant heart/endless volunteerism acted as a bit of a "we'll tolerate you" and/or "embrace you anyway" with most.

Oh my! My parents were intentional about exposing us to all faiths when we were young. We celebrated Jewish holidays with a Jewish family they knew, we were encouraged to "go to church" with schoolmates & select the faith that spoke to us, all while, as a family we celebrated Xmas as Catholic 1/2

Def a complicated part. I am 56 & had to do my "dive" at a library; that part didn't come up. It was college during a Roman history class I learned of ZP. But you are correct, the 2025 "dive" might create issues better suited for a later age. My apologies! My 10 yo heart spoke before my 56 yo head!

Here's something else I did about his age. I was a math & history nerd even back then. I did a deep dive into the history of Santa & how he is portrayed in different countries. That might also help distract as well as provide nuance to the situation. He may still pout, but the deep dive will stick.

I remember those feelings when I was about his age, but now I look back and appreciate my experience. I am a much happier adult because I learned the power of "no" and how to "survive" with less. And, like others are saying, in the moment it feels like you are doing it all wrong. 1/2

I so agree with this! "Stuffing stocking"="small gifts." One of my fav traditions (stolen), once their child figured out "Santa"="Mom/Dad" they took them out on a "date" & said "now you get to help keep the magic alive for siblings" & they also leave a "Santa" gift each yr for an elderly neighbor.

Certainly that was a rhetorical question, right? I'm more curious to know how many people watched Rob Reiner films via Netflix and/or other streaming services around the same time.
