06.11.2025 20:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0An Amiga 500 computer with a fitting screen, a construction of three additional external floppy drives, one an emulator, a non fitting 1541 Floppy drives, and a box of DD2 Floppies, along an unrelated CRT monitor. On the screen the Program X-Copy copying from one floppy drives to another.
Doing it like in the old days. My screening, sorting and cleaning of the old library of software is close to be finishedβ¦

Whad DID belong to a setup like this back then? Like, what do all these components do?

27.10.2025 00:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Could be worseβ¦ my old Huion had a special cable, USB-C on one side, and a splitter to full size HDMI, USB-A, and DC Barrel plug on the other side.
24.10.2025 14:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My local castle ruin has something similar to this. Most of its towers are at least partially destroyed since the napoleon period, but in the courtyard you can see how it used to look like.

23.10.2025 06:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You should also consider a used Intel Macbook. I think the last ones are now around the price category. And they still support installing windows or Linux via bootcamp. Although no windows 11 since no TPM chipβ¦
Maybe not very performant, but great screen and good keyboard, speakers, solid shell.
Thatβs a nice colour mix indeed

16.10.2025 16:09 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I am daily driving linux too, thatβs why I know I am right. Just the fact that literally every problem has already been asked by someone shows how difficult things often are. And sometimes itβs little things that you simply need to know.
15.10.2025 14:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Average Linux experience. Doesnβt even matter if Arch or debian based, nothing beyond the browser and rythmbox works, and you will spend hours troubleshooting something that should have worked from the getgo.

11.10.2025 11:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Then I also see more and more using AI slob as pfp or for their artwork.
I guess there is a realisation that many donβt really care as long as the results look βgoodβ. Itβs an improvement in workflow at the end. Art is a business, too, for better or worse.
An AKAI GX-32 Tapedeck.
A commodore datasette in very good optical condition, and a 1541 floppy drive.
Picked up a newer tape deck today! Ran a bit slow but I got that roughly adjusted. No more humming and hissing, itβs capacitors are certainly in a better shape than the ones in the Geracord deck.
Also, along the way I also picked up some commodore stuff. One seller had six brand new datasettes!
After just ruining my tape deck I am now getting more excited about what better features I could get on a newer one (relative speaking) than being excited at the new technology that I am supposed to grave.
Using old technology just feels more peaceful lately.
Ok, upon further inspection of the service manual this coil pack was for the dynamic noise reduction. So I guess it might still work for playback and maybe even normal recording
08.10.2025 19:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Aahhhβ¦ well RIP Geracord GC6131.
I did intend replacing the capacitors to get rid of the terrible hum. Instead I broke off a set of special coils, that I could only replace with the same ones.
That means this tape deck is now for parts π
Well - the deck undeniably could benefit from a recap. This whole thing hums worse than a bumblebee, but the recording sounds alright. Maybe a bit too bright evenβ¦
06.10.2025 12:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This might have some relation to this new thing I got. As pretty much all of these new tape capable devices itβs canβt record tape for its life, but the playback might be alright.
06.10.2025 11:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Time to make a new mixtape! Letβs see if that deck still works like it used to!
Note: that thing is calibrated by my ears years ago. On the grand scheme of HIFI decks it probably makes terrible recordings because of that. I am looking into properly calibrating it, but itβs difficult.

I liked the windows royale theme. The default blue is iconic, but also kinda mehβ¦.
