What the actual fuck, Apple

19.11.2025 20:25 β π 1602 π 87 π¬ 13 π 1I do understand: you want permission. Thereβs a machine in the corner wrapped in human skin that makes things out of shit and blood to look like whatever you want (as long as you donβt look too closely). You gave one to your teacher and they didnβt notice. Your boss told you to use it after they laid off half the team and it was fine. You fed one to your kids and they liked it. You want to know you can use it sometimes without me thinking less of you. You donβt need me to believe itβs useful, you just want me to be polite about it. But I am a hater, and I will not be polite. The machine is disgusting and we should break it. The people who build it are vapid shit-eating cannibals glorifying ignorance. I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself.
I cosign every single word of this

Great writing tip.
But this is also just a great tip for life in general IMO.
Surround yourself with people who know all kinds of random things and will enthusiastically tell you about them.
That is the good stuff!
Anyway. He also put his name on the fucking public library building. Eat the goddamn rich, and may they all suffer in the next life too.
19.11.2025 12:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I know it won't matter a whit in the long run, and running my mouth is likely to endanger a few friendships, but those friendships are already on the rocks for the fact that they take their salaries FROM GODDAMN SCHWARZMAN MONEY. Makes them nearly as bad as Zibby. (...well, that might be harsh.)
19.11.2025 12:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's not like it's unheard of for bad people to try to launder their reputations through philanthropy, but seeing as Schwarzman attended the big ol' banquet for ~known murderer~ MBS last night, it feels at least a little relevant to the theatergoing public.
19.11.2025 12:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Which spanking-new off-broadway theater is owned, funded, and ostensibly curated by Stephen Schwarzman's wife? I'll give you a hint, their first show out of the gate is somehow unironically RICHARD II and they're across the street from the ostensibly-most-communist off-broadway house in the city!
19.11.2025 12:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I wish we, like, regulated shit nowadays. Between car bloat, blinding headlines, and neighbourhoods packed with rental suites but no on-property parking, driving is an absolute nightmare now.
19.11.2025 01:36 β π 1185 π 254 π¬ 42 π 83Would love to see someone from the moderate, Majority Dem faction really address and wrestle with the political effects of what Labour has been up to.
18.11.2025 22:15 β π 2003 π 287 π¬ 103 π 45Hi, Iβm a website, product, or service youβve relied on for years without incident. Great news: Iβve now been revamped with a mandatory AI component that makes me unusable.
18.11.2025 18:05 β π 744 π 154 π¬ 14 π 0really outrageous that Tommaso went down in the first round β the literary internet wouldn't be what it is without him!
18.11.2025 15:52 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The bottom line is that a writing career is full of so much frustration and sorrow and fury, and it's easy to center that, or to be twisted or broken by it. But there's so much joy as well! Center the joy instead.
18.11.2025 15:32 β π 34 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Writers, publishing will suck all the joy and light from your life if you let it.
So don't let it.
This week, on Undercover in the Apocalypse: my dreams came true, but I just found new ways to be miserable.

One of the worst things Twitter ever did (before the far right takeover) was to make journalists believe that THEY were the story, and the media landscape has never recovered.

18.11.2025 15:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A critic (readers generally, but I'm thinking here of people who set out to analyze or otherwise discuss a work) can only see through the lens of their own context. That lens makes everything look like it fits (or doesn't) whatever pattern the critic is most familiar with.

(rhetorically because I *know* why they aren't breaking into the conversation, and it's the same answer as to why THE EVERLASTING isn't cracking major literary awards etc)
18.11.2025 13:34 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Finally started this series today, because obviously I did βΒ very much enjoying and wondering kind of idly (and I suppose rhetorically) why these books aren't in the genre-awards conversation, as they're unequivocally speculative!

17.11.2025 22:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I love this prize (the only one run by booksellers! or at least the only translation prize run by booksellers!) and this is a very very good decision by this year's jury.
17.11.2025 22:38 β π 13 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0King Tuff's "Smalltown Stardust" (song) is the flip-side of @themountaingoats.bsky.social's UNIVERSAL HARVESTER (novel) and I won't be explaining any further but for those who already know/need to know about this... now it has been said.
