HAHAHA oh jeez sometimes you gotta wonder about how some booksellers make the shelving decisions they do.... (I'm sure people are also saying that about me at my store lol)

01.08.2025 20:01 β π 1600 π 470 π¬ 23 π 0Small, local news stations that serve rural areas will be seriously affected by CPB closures.
Some stations, like KCUW in Pendleton, Oregon, KUHB in St. Paul, Alaska, and WVLS in Monterey, Virginia, rely on CPB for 90% of their funding, according to Axios.https://trib.al/qWwG899
I was forewarned when I visited so I went in ready to juuuust browse til something leapt out at me but the whole vibe of the shop made my wife so anxious that she had to leave
01.08.2025 19:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0okay this does make sense to me (related: have you heard of this shop in London called Libreria? I shall say nothing else about it but examine at your own peril lol)
01.08.2025 19:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0dear people who don't look for a book on the shelf before coming to the counter to ask if we have it... why?
(genuine question! not trying to dunk, although I do find it lightly irritating behavior!)
You are allowed to be proud of your creative work and feel good about it. You donβt need to cringe or apologise for making art. This is true regardless of skill level and especially true if you want to make better art next time.
01.08.2025 18:12 β π 318 π 151 π¬ 2 π 2if you voted for trump you have to join the post-trump WPA and like, plant trees in former strip mines or become a home health aide or replumb jackson and flint while enjoying unsalted vegan cuisine
01.08.2025 18:00 β π 8 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0man, it's a fuck of a lot easier to destroy than to build, and I suspect this country is going to be reminded of that pretty much every day for the rest of my life.
01.08.2025 17:33 β π 100 π 10 π¬ 4 π 1To me the message from any and all Democrats should be: "When we win power back we will match their destructive ambition with our creative ambition. We will build back 10 fold what they have destroyed."
01.08.2025 17:30 β π 99 π 25 π¬ 3 π 1And I do mean *every* single person who voted for Trump, or a Republican, at every single level from local to the Presidency. Yeah, Dems aren't *much* better but they sure are better than this wanton destruction of every good and beautiful thing
01.08.2025 17:21 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I try so hard not to actively wish ill on people but every single person who voted for this deserves to never know the taste of their favorite food ever again. They deserve to always get sunburned. They deserve to sit in traffic, to miss their flights, to never get the reservations they want.

31.07.2025 14:35 β π 10 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0"I'm not running for governor, also here's my book about how I pulled off an insane 107 sprint towards the White House and got closer than anybody expected!" really sounds like laying the 2028 groundwork to me and I just.... wish she wouldn't, honestly. From both a book and a politics perspective.
31.07.2025 14:02 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0sound quality on Tidal is genuinely lightyears better than Spotify, and not in the "you only notice on good headphones" way but in a genuine "oh holy shit Spotify sound quality sucked" way (and more $ to artists, and so far no other obvious ethical issues)

30.07.2025 19:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Editors, readers, please do not fall for Loeb's bullshit. You will see him crop up in headlines as "Harvard astronomer." It means nothing. Idk if he's just out for fame or believes himself, but he's def not doing good science.
30.07.2025 18:50 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0man this is such a bummer, on both counts βΒ it's got my wheels turning about weirdo little publishers who might want this sort of thing, the culture needs a new EC novel!!
30.07.2025 17:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hopefully everyone already knows this, but probably don't upload your license and passport or scan your face to the app that's CEO now owns an A I-powered military drone company.
There are many other music streaming apps, and most of them pay artists better and also aren't invested in murder drones
Alexandra Romanoff's BIG FAN absolutely rocks for a bunch of reasons but one of the best is the subtle ripping of milquetoast Democrats who shy away from popular ideas like UBI because they are too afraid to take a bold stance and be loud about what's good and right.

29.07.2025 20:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0oof I'm so intrigued by this!! because while you might be right, it might have been just totally off the mark... I can't help but wondering how many great books have been left to rot simply because publishers didn't want to take the risk, you know?

Knowing the general quality of your work, I have to wonder if it's about the intermediary step, you know? Are agents and publishers still too unwilling to take a shot on weird stuff, are they getting *more* willing now that the last couple years have seen a bump in weird stuff? But also idk too!!
