I gather it's being made in Poland, and is a pretty accurate depiction of landlord DIY over there πŸ˜‚

Sony BMG copy protection rootkit scandal - Wikipedia

For almost all CDs (with the exception being about 20 million nonstandard CDs that Sony BMG sold between 2005 and 2007ΒΉ, but even those are fine on anything other than old computers) you don't even need to be that fussy about what you play them on :)

I think @jeanette555.bsky.social 's been getting back into RSS feeds? Blogs are returning.

(so no, getting stuff on physical media is not in itself a guarantee that the evil corporations can't steal back your shit, much as audio CDs not having DRM is. But it's the lack of DRM that saves you, not the medium.)

I get why Flash had to die, but also look what they have taken from us 😭

Argh, stop conflating ownership with physicality. Just give me my DRM free files, that I can keep forever (and backup!) without taking up shelf space.

(also y'all know that there's been software on CDs that phones home to license servers since the dawn of the CD, right?)

haha YES.

I should do that.

the code I wrote a week ago does a Blocking request to POP the Rightmost element of a list, so the error handling code and comments are littered with BRPOP, which I keep reading as Britpop.

Israel plays fast and loose with conflating itself to the Jewish people. But that's the thing - EVEN IF THEY REPRESENT ALL JEWS, AND EVEN IF GENOCIDE WAS THE ONLY WAY TO SAVE US, IT'S STILL WRONG.

The end.

That's the point.

Luckily I was done and dusted in two days, if it'd been anything that lasted weeks I'd've been a bit screwed.

Sadly at the time I was called up I was doing freelance websites, and you can't claim at all for any income lost from "work you could do at a later date and receive the same pay for" (but but, I'm still missing income *now*? And it's not like I can invoice twice as much next week?)

aww man, you've got me realising it's a decade or three since I last saw a *faded* 'bankcard accepted here" sticker on a shop window…

phone call done. Test results still meandering in the right direction.

(oi, people with prostates: get checked out if you're over ~45 or have a dodgy family history in that area)

ugh. Waiting for a phone call from a doctor (almost certainly to say "your blood test results are still *just* ok"). Keeping an ear out for a call is almost as disruptive to my ND brain as attending an in person consult. Less driving at least, which is definitely a blessing given the hot weather.

Haven't bought a stamp for a while. Slight sticker shock, but I guess they still cost about the same as a liter of petrol on a cheap day of the week, same as they did back in the '80s

It's like ICE is completely ignoring every lesson that moderately competent police forces are forced to learn, like "don't do high speed chases in densely populated areas with low risk targets"
