true – i was just pointing out how weird it is to claim to be a democracy, but then make participation both optional and difficult

technically, we're not forced to vote, we just have to get our name ticked off – and then decide if we want to buy a democracy sausage (hotdog) from the school stall 😀

in Australia we don't have "a right to vote" – however, as participants in democracy (or sorts), we do have "a duty to vote" – i.e. every eligible person must vote – those who don't are fined (the amount isn't huge) – this makes the government do everything it can to ensure voting is easy to do

straight from the Trump playbook – ignore the shit i'm doing, worry about something that someone else might do one day

it's also hilarious he's worried about a *synthetic* virus, when there are plenty of natural viruses, bacteria and fungi just a mutation or two away from wiping us out

in a way you have TWO issues:
• what the aliens want, and
• what the cultists think the aliens want
and how they think it will help them

depending on the story, you may not have to answer "what the aliens want" if it's the cultists who are the main antagonists – also, the cultists may be wrong

cult in the 1930s! – sounds Lovecraftian, so now i have to bust out his quote : "The oldest and strongest emotion ... is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown."

but will it be as good as *The Nice Guys*?
