Yeah, this sucks.

22.01.2026 16:15 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0What's my best option for a VPN, preferably one not based in a FVEY jurisdiction but also not some Russian or Chinese spyware op too?
09.12.2025 13:58 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0They're not that hard to remove, just nobody has been bothered to remove them.
08.12.2025 14:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I genuinely do not get how a person can be a judge, see a 3 year old and decide "yes, this person can be their own attorney and act in an intelligent fashion" and feel even slightly ok with themselves here.
07.12.2025 12:19 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Abolishing station staff and crewing roles is just neoliberal BS that frankly I've had more than enough of in general.
05.12.2025 14:32 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If you were genuinely concerned about running costs you'd push for extending the electrification at least as far as Maitland/Telarah and running electric trains which are massively cheaper to fuel and maintain. There's massive cost and environmental savings there.
05.12.2025 14:32 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0In my case do you think there's a different reason?
05.12.2025 14:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If I made a Discord server who would join?
05.12.2025 11:22 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Waratah is a major station with fairly high patronage numbers, including people going to the nearby hospital. There's good reason for it to have staff during daylight hours.
Not everything should be geared around what young able bodied white men want you know?
Single manning of trains is far from best practice, just because a bunch of neolibs think it is doesn't make it so.
02.12.2025 23:17 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Yes. The RTBU notified that placing stickers and campaign materials was one of their industrial actions on ST assets was one of their industrial actions and this was accepted and approved by the Fair Work Commission of Australia.
02.12.2025 21:34 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Idk i reckon having staff on stations is good. Like I said you just happened to be there on change over or when someone else was there for some reason.
There's one driver and one guard per train, the rest are either under instruction or just hitching a ride.
Not vandalism. Protected industrial action. As in they jumped through all the legal hoops to make this be completely legal.
02.12.2025 14:25 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0So you picked a station that probably was right on on shift changeover when there's two people there (because I know where this is and it usually has one person there) and found a train that either has off duty crew travelling to or from work or a trainer performing training and that's your example?
02.12.2025 14:24 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Oh is that why the logo is upside down at the moment?
02.12.2025 09:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Link? I've never seen them that cheap before?
01.12.2025 01:42 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Also seeing as you seem interested, the fire extinguishers that work with lithium are called "F-500" fire extinguishers. Unfortunately they're not cheap.
30.11.2025 16:15 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I've come to learn most firefighters have a dim view of lithium ion batteries.
30.11.2025 16:12 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0For what it's worth the advice my firefighter friend told me was "dunk it in water, as much as you can, for as long as you can. In the sink, in the bathtub if you have one, in a swimming pool"
30.11.2025 16:12 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Water immersion is the easiest way to achieve this, they are also developing fire extinguishers that provide sufficient cooling effect that the fire will extinguish itself when used. Unfortunately they're quite rare and quite uncommon which given the proliferation of lithium batteries should change
30.11.2025 16:09 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The reason immersion is the main method used to fight lithium ion battery fires is because when a lithium battery burns, it makes it's own oxygen. Any firefighting method that relies on smothering is ineffective in this case, cooling below combustion temperature is pretty much it.
30.11.2025 16:05 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Water immersion is the only currently accepted viable means to fight lithium ion battery fires.
Elemental lithium does explode in water but wouldn't the lithium in batteries be in the form of compounds and therefore have different properties? Just as sodium explodes in water but salt doesn't?
Third answer: Boring.
