People who think they can meaningfully understand the past by asking questions of their plagiarism autocomplete machines simply don’t know what history is. Good historical writing doesn’t just give answers, it invites thought.

So I have just read the chapter on British bombing of Germany in 1943 in @alanallport.bsky.social new book and it is one of the best pieces of historical writing I have ever read. Research, fine judgement and sensibility combined with style. History is fundamentally writing and this is a model.
