Moreover, what’s interesting in 1943 is that the Luftwaffe more than matched the Allied buildup in bombers, in the spring they had 600 fighters of all types and by the fall they had 1000 fighters of all types (tho they had to pull from the frontlines)

Still insane that even into the fall of 1943, 8th Air Force was still like “do we really need long range escorts?” (Gladwell doesn’t talk about any of this, which is kinda important to the story🙃)
