Notes are a great idea. Just list examples of your experiences that meet the diagnostic criteria, which you can find online. Also, maybe it will help to think of it as an assessment rather than a test.

I see. Well, I'm not of much use to her but hopefully these extra details will help someone else identify as a good match for her.

How is her emotional regulation? Do you think she would be open to a private online opportunity to focus on this? Feel free to DM me if this is getting too personal.

Is this just how it looks to you or would/does she say the same? Is she counting on you to arrange accommodations or is it important to her to have some agency in this?

What accommodations would improve her daily quality of life?

None of this is meant to discourage discussion of new terminology. But if we enter that with an emotionally empowered understanding, the course of the conversation changes in a way I believe serves everyone well. /4

The crux of emotional regulation is understanding the relationship between thoughts & feelings. Once feelings are understood as a real-time reflection of thinking, emotional intelligence improves. Leaving aside articulation for a moment, this changes the need for identifying feelings. 3/

Once identified, even if not understood, articulation may be more possible (perhaps more so for some than others). It is different when it comes to emotions, where understanding itself can be the game changer that *precedes* identifying how one feels. 2/

Alexithymia seems like emotional interoception. So instead of identifying thirst, hunger, or need to pee, we're talking about identifying emotions. My point is identifying & understanding are not the same. One need not understand their stomach or bladder functions to identify their needs. 1/

...even when we don't notice or believe it. Insight means I saw for myself the thought/feeling relationship is a constant in life for everyone. My words can point where to look, but only your own insights will help you. Check my pinned post for more. Please consider me a resource. 2/2

I was diagnosed with cyclothymia at 17. At 37 (2009), I was undiagnosed & unmedicated. The key was insight into the relationship between thoughts & feelings. Emotional regulation hasn't been a problem since then because mood swings are "normal" as feelings always reflect thinking in real-time...1/2

You are on to something with the fundamental unique understanding but I don’t think it’s specific to skill. You may someday see your gift for lock picking & programming helps in some surprising context, because of the understanding rather than the skills. It will just seem obvious and make sense.

As a US expat, it's unfathomable to me how anyone thinks going to the US right now is better than wherever they are. That just means I know I can't imagine being in your shoes. Respecting your sense of danger & maybe desperation, I invite you to DM me for possible intros to two lawyers.

YouTube video by Kaelynn Partlow Call it what you want, I think it just means I’m ready for action 😅 #autism #autistic #adhd

This reminds me of Kaelynn Partlow talking about her hands often being in the same position not as a negative of her autism but as a practical adaptation.

Sterilization seems an inappropriate word for eliminating a human's ability to reproduce. Medical/dental (and even piercing/tattooing) equipment is sterilized for cleanliness and safety. To prevent animals from reproducing we spay or neuter them. So why do we say sterilization for human fertility?
