Very good thread. Iβll add that we canβt only pressure our admin to lead this. We have to figure out how to make our cases directly to the public while we try to get our university leaders to use their far bigger microphones to do the same

These are the same Senate Democrats who lectured the base for years about the importance of preserving the filibuster so it would still be available when Democrats were in the minority

Sadly the survey history of higher ed category is sorely lacking a non-ivy focused survey text which is up to date. Even Rudolph which focuses on Land-Grants is terribly out of date (1960s)

Thelin is an interesting source but it often preferences the experience of a tiny handful of elite academic institutions and ignores the complex web occurring at state and regional institutions public and private.

Pretty rich for the AHA to champion its "advocacy" efforts when its leadership has consistently stifled any criticism of the ongoing scholasticide in Gaza. ποΈ

What kind of justification is "this is outside our scope"? Abdicating the moral imperative implicit in being a so-called expert is such a disappointing and unsurprising look. History seems to still be enamored with the myth of non political education.

The tendency amongst educators and students to view each other as threats in need of management instead of people is so sad. What if we tried to break down hierarchical relationships built on dominance and be good to each other? What a world it could be!

If you spend any time on r/Professors on reddit you will see that lack of empathy and feelings of hostility towards students are absolutely rampant amongst the professoriate. It should come as no surprise that professors who care produce better results for their pupils.
