We, the undersigned, wholly condemn the Canadian government’s response to the Israeli government’s mass starvation and killing of Palestinians in Gaza, as well as the military violence and forced displacement of Palestinians from their land in the West Bank. We unequivocally denounce the Canadian government’s engagement in the ineffective, undignified, and deadly method of air dropping aid, and call for an immediate escalation in Canada’s response to Israel’s genocide by enacting all economic, diplomatic, and political sanctions available. Mass starvation is being used by Israel as a tool of genocide against the Palestinian people. The intentional denial of food and water in Gaza is a crime against humanity, a violation of the international human rights to food and water, and a breach of humanitarian law. As scholars, students, workers, and practitioners with decades of collective experience related to food, nutrition and agricultural work within our communities, we call on the government of Canada to act concretely against Israel’s deliberate and systematic weaponization of food and water against the people of Palestine.
