"This victory for Houstonians trying to make their homes whole is hardly the last step β there is much more work to do β but it is a sign of what can happen when you do not yield, but instead fight for what you are entitled to."

"According to KRIS 6 News, Corpus Christi HA CEO Allsup was among the top 10 highest-paid housing authority CEOs nationwide in 2022. He makes almost double what the Houston Housing Authority CEO earns, though Houston's authority is the largest in Texas."

Of more than 18,000 people who were on the Houston Housing Authorityβs Housing Choice Voucher waitlist earlier this year, fewer than 2,000 remain. The reduction came after an update to the waitlist that required applicants to respond.

Our latest video on @nlihc.org's 2025 Out of Reach report zeroes in on Texas and the need for more affordable housing in our state. #oor25

Texas housing policy & wide empty spaces may result in more housing production for the mid-class but it falls just as short as blue states in affordable housing for those most impacted by the housing crisis who are left unprotected by Texasβ weak social safety net & landlord-tenant laws.
17.07.2025 17:59 β π 1 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0High rents and low wages have created the housing gap for low-income renters. In Texas, a worker must earn $29.64 per hour to afford a modest 2 bedroom rental home or $24.87 for a 1 bedroom.
Plainly stated: We need more affordable housing. #oor25 @nlihc.org

"Because of all the hills, you have a steep ground surface. So when you get intense rainfall, the rain falls on the ground and it runs off quickly because of those steep slopes and it really just accumulates in rivers and becomes this deadly wave of water that travels downstream very fast."

We are encouraged to see that the funding for housing has gone from $0 to $50 million, but as the article says, it is still falling short of unmet need, and input from the community is vital! You can still offer comments until 6/22 at houstontx.gov/housing
