Ghislaine Maxwell moved to lower-security prison in Texas Her attorney did not explain why she was moved from a detention facility in Florida, where she is serving 20 years for sex trafficking.

Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s imprisoned associate, has been moved to a lower-security prison, her attorney said.

Maxwell, who was convicted in 2021 on sex-trafficking charges, had been serving her 20-year sentence at a low security prison.

It's really weird to demand accountability from a NYC mayoral candidate for a deadly NYC shooting rather than the current NYC mayor, an ex-cop who campaigned on a "tough on crime" platform and promptly got indicted for crimes

Mr. Digre's company has long manufactured speakers in Minnesota for export, including to a major customer in Canada. His firm relies on certain materials from China, the only place to get many small components needed for speakers. But Mr. Digre must now pay a 55 percent tariff on those Chinese imports. As a result, manufacturing for that customer from the United States no longer makes sense. So Mr. Digre has shifted speaker production to a factory in China, where he will export directly to Canada and bypass the United States entirely.

β€˜Welcome to hell’: Inside the megaprison where the U.S. deported migrants Interviews with 16 former detainees of El Salvador’s Terrorism Confinement Center offer the most complete view yet of conditions inside the notorious prison.

One was beaten unconscious. Others were covered in bruises, struggling to walk or vomiting blood. Another said he’d been sexually assaulted.

These are the stories of 16 former detainees who were deported to El Salvador’s mega prison.

NEW FROM @reuters.com: Top U.S. law firms have sharply scaled back their efforts to challenge the federal government in court, especially on behalf of pro bono clients, in the face of threats from President Trump.

Another fallacy. It’s much easier to close big gaps than smaller ones. Are we to be shocked that the wealth gap closed by leaps and bounds between the time when Black people held no wealth because they were property and emancipation when they were finally able to keep the fruits of their labor?

Checks out.

So, that points to marriage not being the cause of the RACIAL wealth gap, which is what that entire essay is about.

31.07.2025 16:16 β€” πŸ‘ 29    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

In general, married people hold more wealth than unmarried women. Thst is true for Black people when you compare them to other Black people, but not married Black people when you compare them to unmarried white women. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

31.07.2025 16:15 β€” πŸ‘ 22    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

So, if education and marriage were the significant factors in closing the racial wealth gap, then the wealth gap should not exist or be narrower when comparing Black married people and white married people, Black college-educated people with white college-educated people. But it’s not.

31.07.2025 16:12 β€” πŸ‘ 122    πŸ” 18    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 1

But what I show in β€œWhat Is Owed,” unmarried white people hold more wealth than married Black people. College-educated Black people have less wealth and are more likely to be unemployed than white Americans with no college. And in fact, the wealth gap increases the more educated a Black person is.

31.07.2025 16:10 β€” πŸ‘ 122    πŸ” 18    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 1

The argument is about the cause of the wealth gap between Black and white people, not the wealth gap between married and unmarried Black people. If marriage rates are largely or significantly responsible for the racial wealth gap, we’d need to compared unmarried groups with married groups.

I so want to debate this essay, point by point. But let me just point to an easy error. In arguing the worn theory that Black wealth disparity’s due to unmarried mothers, why would the control group be married Black people, not white people of similar circumstance? www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

The fact that literally zero outlets ever cover crime decline as a story is a huge reason. (And before you yell at me, we do!)

When democratic backsliding and corruption get really bad is usually in term 2.

When first in power, would-be authoritarians often don’t know how things work, and worry that they’ll alienate too many people.

But if they show their true colors then get electoral validation anyway, all bets are off.
