I’m quietly meditating tonight… yet there are 2 chilling thoughts keep haunting me— 📌1. Measles is not just highly infectious with R0 of 12-18, but it has a long ***2 WEEK*** INCUBATION period—ie Texas outbreak could be in the HUNDREDS or more already, and we are seeing just the early tip of iceberg. About 20% of cases are hospitalized traditionally. 📌2. Measles infection partly wipes out memory B cells memory of how to fight past infections. Ie. Your immunity to past infections (that you’ve successfully defeated in the past) may be partly wiped out by measles. ➡️Read: this also includes wiping away immunity achieved thru past vaccinations for other diseases, not just past infection acquired immunity. Both the details above give me chills thinking about the larger consequences of a potential massive measles outbreak.
