We conducted both interviews to understand how the constructs are viewed between cultures, as well as experiments that showed our scale responding to experimental manipulation. The pitfalls of literal translation are well known, but still many scales are only translated by the researchers using them. But with constructs that are, as we can see in our data, so different between cultures, we believe this to be insufficient. Hence, we developed each scale from the bottom up.
