Women’s health has been un-and understudied since the NIH was founded. We have only have 2 women directors; the first one immediately got a women’s health initiative going. This study was a key part of that work, begun in 1990 and an important longitudinal dataset.

I am so sorry. This is such an important issue and was already understudied in health research.

I’m assuming it was created as another source for the AI bots to search for terms on the trigger list

NIH granting is an arduous & thorough process. Every funded award represents hundreds of hours of labor, much of it unpaid, by multiple highly skilled and experienced scientists who write or review applications. Very few proposals are funded on the first round; most on revision; can take 18+ months

Great article by @pamherd.bsky.social, and explainer thread, on NIH review: “It is an intensely competitive process, where most participants invest lots of time, and leave empty-handed. The level of competition means that merit and quality is embedded into the process.”

In addition, independent research institutes without students have no other sources of income and will be forced to close.

NIH certificates of confidentiality have been known for many years now to be ineffective when data are subpoenaed. Researchers should not rely on them and should not use them as a guarantee of data security to research participants.
