On #WorldFoodDay, discover how a Global Ministries grant, made possible by UMCOR's World Hunger and Poverty Advance, awarded to the Rural Women’s Development Society, is addressing food insecurity, preserving culinary traditions and providing livelihoods to Palestinian women in the West Bank.

As we pray, we are also coordinating with the disaster response team of the Alaska Annual Conference as they communicate with the impacted villages and respond to their needs.

As the waters recede and the scope of the damage becomes clear, we especially pray for those who are missing, for their loved ones and for those who have lost their livelihoods and homes.

The flooding in these communities was made worse by the climate-change-induced loss of permafrost, making these areas extremely flood-prone.

Dozens of homes have been swept away and destroyed by coastal flooding and hurricane-force winds, especially along the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta coast and in the communities of Kwigillingok, Kipnuk and Napakiak, where the storm hit the hardest.

As those impacted by all three earthquakes begin to recover, we are prepared to support the ongoing response efforts of our United Methodist partners, UMCOR Disaster Management Offices, and trained disaster response volunteers in the Philippines.

UMCOR recently awarded a solidarity grant to the Davao Episcopal Area Disaster Management Office, the primary UMC partner and volunteer network currently responding to the September 30 earthquake.

We especially pray for those who have lost loved ones, those who are injured, and those who have lost livelihoods and were already vulnerable after the Cebu earthquake.

Please join us in prayer for the Philippines as two more powerful earthquakes have struck the southern part of the country today, following the 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu on September 30.

As those impacted continue on the road to recovery, UMCOR will be with them for the long haul. For the next 3 years, recovery grants to the affected annual conferences, fueled by your donations, will strengthen United Methodist response coordination and provide long-term help to those in need.

When the waters receded and the winds calmed, United Methodists were there, providing relief to those impacted through the coordination of UMCOR-trained Early Response Teams (ERTs), the distribution of relief supplies and nearly $400k in relief grants to affected United Methodist annual conferences.

One year ago, communities across the southeast U.S. were left devastated by Hurricane Helene. At least 250 lives were lost, countless homes were destroyed, and entire towns were swept away.

As response efforts begin, we give thanks to first responders and aid workers, and we pray for their safety as they navigate the challenges of getting aid to the remote region.

In response, United Methodists raised millions of dollars for relief and recovery efforts, UMCOR coordinated the movement of hundreds of thousands of volunteers, and UMCOR managed Katrina Aid Today, a FEMA-supported partnership among nine relief organizations that assisted nearly 200,000 survivors.

In response, we have awarded a solidarity grant to our regional partner, Community World Service Asia (CWSA). This grant will provide urgent relief and build resilience among 100 flood-affected households in Hunza and Nagar, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
