Gun violence has escalated over the last 4 decades due to more guns sold to civilians & weaker gun laws.

If anyone has told me on Jan 6, 2021, that in four years Trump would be returned to the White House, I wouldn't have believed it. If someone had suggested he would also be named "patriot of the year," I would have laughed. This can't really be true, can it?

When I was a child, I learned that the Constitution didn’t apply to people like us. I said the Pledge of Allegiance from inside a barbed wire camp, the words “with liberty and justice for all” wholly meaningless.

But I did not give up on America. I’ve spent my life fighting for its ideals.

The fact is Trump campaigned on retribution. No one knows exactly how bad—how egregious and hateful it will be—but it would be foolish to believe he wasn’t serious.

I’m keeping my eyes on those who stand up for principle, for democracy and decency, and don’t act out of fear.
