Video-games certainly skew the “art” towards an interactive/reactive experience by the audience being inherent to the artistry. But that does not mean authorial shaping/guidance of audience interaction is not part of the artistry.

If we do not accept the medium as inherent to the artistic experience and believe the person experiencing it must necessarily be passive for it to be art, then yes, I suppose he makes a point. Otherwise, no. Art requires action by the author and reaction/interaction by the audience.

Because if we can accept games as a medium, in which, art is created. Then I’d argue Dwarf Fortress is art.
