I uncovered my plants after a week of temps in the 20s. Somehow, it's the pineapples that survived Florida snow flurries?

The Real Story Behind the Midnight Immigration Raid on a Chicago Apartment Building The Trump administration has claimed the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua had taken over the building. But new documents make no mention of the gang and reveal federal agents had information about β€œille...

our government used a Blackhawk helicopter in a major American city, detained children and zip-tied U.S. citizens all to target... squatters

Looking through the Dual Lens: Michelle PeΓ±aloza’s β€œAll the Words I Can Remember Are Poems” Michelle PeΓ±aloza’s second full-length collection, β€œAll the Words I Can Remember Are Poems,” reminds us of the function of poems: to record, to remember, to share.

"PeΓ±aloza’s latest collection emphasizes how new forms don’t supplant or forget existing ones, but offer variation β€” a kind of play β€” which is the point of the poem, to make and to make again."

In my last piece here, I talked about the rhetoric employed against Hamas, or indeed any group the status quo is set against, and how neutral, militaristic rhetoric is always employed for Israel's actions. There's the emotive impact, of course, but it goes further. The rhetoric of hatred and terror, the sensationalist language, is used by the State to designate its enemies as essentially mindless, as less than animal, in order to render them exterminable.
Reason and civility can do nothing against these manifestations of embodied hatred; this magical thinking runs in reverse, too, where no logic is required, no reason, no thinking on the part either of the messenger or of the audience receiving this message, what you are expected to do is feel-first fear, and then reassurance at the bloodletting or promised "crack down" to follow. What's another right, another check on power, in the scheme of the nation's security? And that's what you're being asked rhetorically to shoulder, in these moments, each time: the whole nation-state rests on your willingness to give more power to the very same security and enforcement agencies that fail repeatedly.

Over and over, we see this tactic employed by the powerful: they are never to be held accountable, to sacrifice anything, it’s up to individuals to do more, while the status quo remains unchanged and the system unchallenged, except to accrue more power and money. sakr.substack.com/p/the-stalki...

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.

And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: β€œNo, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”

Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

We Teach Each Other How to Stay
T. De Los Reyes
All good things in the life I know involve me stumbling into my own astonishment. I take a half-step in the dark and you are beside me, my hand nestled in your hand as if it has always belonged there. When you call me little flower as a way of saying good morning and all good things spill into the day like sunlight, how grateful I am for a cracked window. When you place a wet kiss on my nape while washing my back in the shower, I think of all good things and forget I am wounded. When I find you in the kitchen failing to make coconut buns you've seen someone else do, when I try to braid your hair and it becomes a hot mess, when I use too much spice and you still lick the spoon, I recognise all good things hold our mistakes gently. Each time I think I finally know who you are, I am grateful for my ignorance. All good things come in waves, and each version of you I would take gladly: when I'm awake, or in my dreams, in this life or the next. If every corner of this universe where you exist are all good things, I beg to be allowed to hold you close. Let me embrace your ghost to my bones.
