Next Tuesday is the final vote and I would encourage all Ottawans that are interested in the future of our kids education to come make some noise for our Alternative Schools.

Last night I took my daughter to watch the OCDSB vote on its Alternative Schools program. She attends and loves her school and is deeply invested in its future. She cheered the trustees trying to save it but, in the end, the vote was to cut the Schools, led partially by her trustee Suzanne Nash.

Good on PM for telling Trump that Canada is not for sale, but I would note that he is speaking to a guy that wants to buy Gaza and turn it into a Riviera and then become pope.

- Parliament prorogued
- Trump becomes President, picks fight with Canada.
- PM resigns after decade in power.
- Leadership contest leads to new PM
- Trump tarrifs on, then off, then on, then whole world.
- Ontario has election
- Canada calls election
- Pope dies

But in a couple of months, with a national crisis and a new Prime Minister, the pendulum has swung and the polls now are predicting a Liberal win. I am not sure if that will come true but the fact we are even here is unlike anything I have ever seen. /18

But - despite riding high for years in the polls - the world shifted.

The new PM called an election. This is what the Conservatives had wanted for the better part of TWO YEARS. In January, polls had them winning by an absolutely crushing majority. /17

Remember "Axe the tax"?Carney also immediately did away with the carbon tax.

So the Conservatives lost their favourite punching bag in Justin Trudeau AND the policy they most hated in the carbon tax. They essentially got what they wanted. /16

In the past few months, the President of the US has decided he has issues with Canada and is going to try to annex it with economic force. So it is a real crisis for us. /15

The Liberal Party runs a faster-than-normal process and chooses a new leader: Mark Carney, our current Prime Minister.

This guy is a bit of an all-star candidate in that he was the head of the Bank of Canada and then the Bank of England. The hope is that he would be good in a crisis. /14

The leader of that party becomes Prime Minister. So technically a party could change leaders multiple times in a 4 year period before the next election and there would be multiple Prime Ministers.

Anyway, Trudeau says he is leaving as soon as party runs a process to choose a replacement. /13

Sidebar here - and this will be crazy to our American neighbours - but the Prime Minister is just the leader of the ruling party. It is the party who chooses who will lead them and not the voters. The voters just vote for representatives and the party with the most gets to form government and /12

With so many of his own Ministers no longer supporting him and with public opinion in the toilet, Trudeau announced he was resigning as soon as the Liberal Party chose a new leader. /11

This was in the wake of the election of Donald Trump in the US. He had a known dislike for Trudeau and started talking smack about Canada.

Canadians did not like this. /10

But Justin Trudeau, who lost a bunch of people who saw the polls and suddenly wanted to spend more time with their family, finally angered a core ally: his own Finance Minister. There is a story there but for simplicity's sake let's just say this was the straw that broke the camel's back. /9

The problem was that the other parties - who were left leaning - did not! They refused to bring the government down, despite it being a minority. That means we were heading to a 4 year term and an election in October of this year. /8
