14 Teledyne Webb APEX Argo floats set up in a lab for testing at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Halifax, Canada. 7 of them have an SBE CTD, and the other 7 have the new RBRArgo CTD (red).
πOne decision that came from the Argo AST last month is that the RBRArgo CTD is now accepted for global implementation. Argo Canada has committed to buying at least 50% of our floats with RBR sensors to support diversification of the fleet. In photos, an update to my lego Argo float π.

I can't believe that @clarkgrichards.bsky.social forgot to include an example of an #Argo float for #CTDAppreciationDay, one of the most important CTD-equipped platforms for understanding the global ocean. There are currently 4091 operational floats, profiling every 10 days and sending data back! π

I almost forgot about #CTDappreciationDay! There aren't many aspects of my job that don't rely on CTD data. Here are some photos of our trusted SBE CTD and rosette sampling the Canadian Northwest Passage, the cutest little CTD on a turbulence profiler (made by JFE), and a glider CTD made by RBR.

Fourteen yellow Teledyne Webb Apex Argo floats stand in a lab at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. One in the center shows off it's RBR inductive-style CTD sensor.
New shipment of @argocanada.bsky.social #Argo floats arrived (Teledyne Apex)! Getting them tested and ready to start deploying. Can't tell because of the baggies over the sensors, but half of them are #RBR sensors and the other half are #SBE sensors. Our committment to diversifying the Argo fleet!

Hi! I'm Clark, an observational physical oceanographer working at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Halifax, Canada. I monitor Arctic outflows, manage a fleet of ocean gliders, and contribute to the international Argo program (see @argocanada.bsky.social). Also interested in internal waves. π
