Workshop on #Arctic observations in Yokohama 🇯🇵 pending the launch of 🇯🇵 research icebreaker Mirai II next year.

The last working area of the @awi.de expedition PS150 on board #Polarstern is located close to the coast of northeast Greenland, at the floating terminus of the 79 North Glacier, offering amazing views of the fjords, mountains and glaciers.

The Maud is perhaps a lesser known polar ship than its counterparts the Fram and the Gjøa, that can be visited at the Fram Museum (Oslo). But Maud still made a great contribution to #Arctic #exploration and #science, and is now back on Norwegian soil.

Mission completed! We finished out annual #FramStraitNPI cruise, bringing lots of data and samples with us! We collected around 1500 liters of seawater in 3350 different bottles, partly analysed on board and partly shipped to different labs. Read more: www.instagram.com/p/DNXxG_eoK8...

New paper 🚨 in #ASLO_LO @aslo.org describes a new proxy to assess the degree of photodegradation☀️of organic matter in the #Arctic Ocean. This is posed to increase with reduced #Arctic sea ice cover and this new method could be a way to monitor this in lack of other ways.

We left yesterday from sunny Tromsø for the annual #FramStraitNPI cruise aboard #FFKronprinsHaakon! We'll spend the next 3 weeks at around 79°N in Fram Strait, collecting lots of oceanographic data and samples for the @epocproject.bsky.social and several other projects. Stay tuned for updates!

Our team member Dmitry is onboard @awi.de Polarstern on the #CONTRASTS expedition in the #Arctic Ocean. #onthisday one hundred years ago two Dornier airplanes N24 and N25 with 6 men landed in sea ice at 87° 43’ N when attempting to reach the North Pole. They all had to return with one plane. A memorial in Ny-Ålesund #Svalbard reminds of this expedition. Read more: www.instagram.com/p/DJ6dKy5IfO...

This week, the 2025 Arctic-Subarctic Ocean Fluxes (ASOF) workshop was hosted by ICM in Barcelona and thanks to @iasc-arctic.bsky.social cross-cutting workshop funding we could support the travel of 7 Early Career and Indigenous participants.

#EGU25 | Last week we joined @egu.eu in Vienna — Europe’s largest geosciences conference. Events like this are key to fostering international collaboration — especially important at a time when science, equality, and academic freedom are under threat.

We currently investigate sea ice in inner Kongsfjorden as a part of our long-term Svalbard sea ice monitoring program. Recent years have often been characterized by little and thin sea ice in the fjord. Read more here: instagram.com/p/DJJxYMco3AS
