It's similar to the way Harry Potter immediately soured for me because engaging with it while knowing the kind of heart Rowling is writing from changes the way the work feels; there isn't any moralizing or whatever that I have to do, it's easy to drop it because it's rotted in my hands. "Oh but you LIKED this song before, nothing changed!" The conversational partner did. A very large portion of what is interesting to me about art is thinking of why the creator chose that instrumentation, or what made them want to make the thing in the first place. Finding out I've been talking to a wall completely removes an entire third of the force that art is to me, and I can't argue that anything about art or its consumption is Objectively Correct but I can argue it's fucking boring lmao

This is a really good way of looking at art -- "The conversational partner changed" is SUCH a good way of phrasing how I personally see art/writing/music/etc.

Six captures of the red planet during October 2020 during which it reached opposition. The sky was largely cloud free and not significantly suffering from turbulence caused by air traffic (a particular problem where I live in London). One small benefit of the Covid lockdown days and nights! You can see lots of surface detail and the white snow capped polar regions. The variation in colour is largely due to how I processed each image plus my own personal issues with red/green 'daltonism'.

Mars is currently in opposition (when Mars, Earth & the Sun are in a straight line). In October 2020 when, at its closest to us and just 38 million miles away, I made the most of cloud free skies, a larger object and lower air turbulence. Next time this close is 2035. #astronomy #astrophotography
