Of course there‘s something in it for the USA. That doesn’t mean it will be bad for Venezuelans. My impression is that USA ran Venezuelan oil extraction pre-Chavez. And Venezuela was a *much* nicer place to live. With very high GDP and HDI for Venezuelans.

Oh it’s definitely not all about drugs. Any thinking person can see that. But even if this was done for selfish reasons (eg oil for USA), there’s still the chance of a positive outcome for Venezuelans, and it’s frustrating that nobody on bsky can even recognize that.

My experience was in STEM academia. Maybe women there didn’t feel entitled, but if you were even above average, opportunities were thrown at you. STEM was desperate for women.

Personally my career was harder at every step because of DEI. As a white man it was clear that at big institutions you were not wanted. Especially if your role was prestigious and visible to the public. Much easier to get a career in low esteem like defense contractor. Or be an entrepreneur.
