And now a question:

Who was the first to use the ASCL to cite software? I will provide chocolate (when weather/circumstances allow [::shakes fist at high temps::]) to the first person who correctly identifies the first citation to an ASCL entry (using the ASCL ID).

Please post answers here.

ADS partial screenshot showing ASCL entries have been cited 20,025 times.

As of today, ADS shows that ASCL entries have over 20K citations. Citations are not a perfect metric, but they do show ASCL is being used & is useful for citing software, thereby allowing code authors to get credit for the computational methods they contribute to the field, w00t!

Exoplanet Modeling and Analysis Center EMAC serves as a catalog, repository and integration platform for modeling and analysis resources focused on the study of exoplanet characteristics and environments.

ASCL has received funding through NASA's HPOSS call for a 1-year project to improve the visibility & citability of research software in Exoplanet Modeling & Analysis Center (EMAC). The project is directed by ASCL editor Alice Allen & Dr. Peter Teuben through Eureka Scientific.

Front Page β€” Free Software Foundation β€” working together for free software The FSF has been campaigning for your software freedom for forty years. We can't prevent a dystopian future alone - join us in our crucial work to guard user freedom and defy dystopia. Become an associate member today!

I'm far from being an expert in this, but I licence anything I write, even though almost all of it is for personal use only.

The Free Software Foundation, who are experts in this field, are a super source for information.

... licensed, however. We curate our site links; some are bad & remain that way. We'd like to be able to remedy all bad links.

What to do when code is not licensed?
When we don't have a code in our archive?

SW used in research should remain available to support that research; how can we improve?

Thanks! I had to poke around in the archive file a bit & did find mention of a permissive license.

For this code, I created an archive file that includes the HTML page (& style info), include links to that archive & page (hosted by ASCL), & add an editor's note.

Many codes aren't ...

Thanks, Ole! We (now) routinely push code sites (html pages) to Internet Archive & try to ensure the software is also archived there; we do adjust links to point there when needed (ex ascl.net/9909.004, ascl.net/9906.001).

We didn't always do this, though, & hadn't done so for this code, alas.

How do you recommend we do this? What options do you see here?

Astro folks, I'm looking for a good link for a code that's been in ASCL for a while; existing link now fails. Author is deceased (alas); I have not found a replacement link.

ASCL's archive does, however, have the code & a copy of the code website. We don't want to violate copyright, but...

Meeting info: eas.unige.ch/EAS2025/

This is only for registration; so probably best for someone in Cork.

Let's get this registration to a better owner!

Please help this EAS registration find a good home!!

I have an in-person registration for next week's European Astronomical Society (EAS) meeting in Cork, Ireland, already paid for, but now am unable to go.

Rather than cancel the registration, I would prefer to transfer it to someone -- free
