β€˜Publish or perish’ evolutionary pressures shape scientific publishing, for better and worse Scientists write papers to share their results – and gain prestige and advance their careers. In this competitive field, selection can favor AI-written papers, citation cartels, paper mills and more.

"...we need to ask why bad acts are selected in the first place and design better systems. Don’t blame the player, redesign the game. If we can put better rules in place, evolution will do the rest."

This is another wake-up call about what is happening with scientific literature, which is being flooded by template papers produced by paper mills. One example is the use of open-access databases like FAERS or NHANES, combined with analyses that rely on biased or incorrect methodologies.

Impossible to say. I’ve read them over a period spanning more than a decade. The novels that impressed me most, show how complex the minefield is early career researchers have to navigate. Like e.g. A. Goodman - Intuition and J. Rohn - The honest look (not yet in the preprint).

DISCO II and III Methods

Methods for DISCO II and III (no idea what that means)
Comparing 2012 and 2016.
Industry-sponsored RCTs had 98% registered - doing really well. Non-industry sponsored did good, 90%.
Completion status: Here we found lots of dicontinuation, usually because of poor recruitment.

A prompt-based approach was highly accurate in defining clinical trial outcomes and identifying outcome changes in ClinicalTrials.gov. This approach could be expanded to identify changes between registrations and manuscripts. Although it did not achieve perfect accuracy, our prompt-based approach could help editors and peer reviewers
detect likely discrepancies that warrant further review.

#ChatGPT was accurate in identifying changes in RCT outcomes on ClinicalTrials.gov, and completed the entire process (ie, matching, defining, comparing) in ~2 min per trial vs 27 min for humans
