The photo was taken on a Kodak Retina 1b. Scale focus, no light meter. It was the camera that was ultimately passed to me to learn on. From an early age, he was very encouraging of my interest in photography. I’m grateful for that.

A quick break from my own photos. My father enjoyed taking pictures but didn’t style himself as a photographer. This picture always captured my imagination. The lighting is so dramatic, our expressions a little crazy. It kind of reminds me of Diane Arbus.

I’ve always wondered if taking photos of graffiti is equivalent to taking someone else’s art. But this shows that street art is often layers of collaboration and competition. I think my participation is curating a section and posting it here. I’d like to hear what other people think
