Of the three groups in your list, I’m most suspicious of the one that stands by and watches as the place burns to the ground. They’re typically the ones who’ll invest in deadbolt locks, surveillance equipment and private security before helping a neighbor in need. 😑

For millions of folks living in the US this season getting through an ordinary day will feel like a mix of Survivor and Hunger Games where the grand prize is sharing a complete meal with their families in the privacy of their own homes.

I watched it last night. If you swap out the characters in the movie for the people who are currently in those positions, the storyline and that ending makes a lot more sense. I think Netflix was hoping to watchers would come away feeling the way they did after watching Don’t Look Up. 🤷‍♂️

To make matters worse, there are millions of Americans who’ve decided to tune out and pretend that ignoring the problem will make it go away and millions more who are already in survival mode and don’t have the time and/or energy to pay attention to either the hill or the avalanche.

You start off eating Cheerios in early childhood.

As a pre-teen/teen, you dump Cheerios and start something with Lucky Charms.

In your late 40s/early 50s, you realize you’re done with all the sweet stuff and decide to get back in bed with those little pudgy Os.

Health insurance premiums are about to double.

It’s like they forgot about the time when uninsured sick folks would use emergency departments as their medical homes and would rely on hospitals’ indigent care services to get well.

Many are choosing to boycott the holidays. Others will be forced to.
