For too long, Section 107 of the Canada Labour Code has silenced workers and unions, stripping them of their most effective means to fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect on the job. MTS stands in solidarity with the CLC and calls for an end to this practice. buff.ly/8XZKixh

Teachers change the world — one student, one lesson, one moment at a time. Today is World Teachers’ Day, and we celebrate the passion, resilience, and dedication of our teachers in the Seine River School Division, and all teachers worldwide. Thank you for helping every learner thrive. 👏🌍

Wishing those observing Yom Kippur a meaningful day of reflection and renewal. May this time bring peace, clarity, and a hopeful start to the year ahead.

We are mindful of the 94 Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, particularly calls 62 through 65. As educators, we know we must do everything we can to provide appropriate and meaningful education to our students, so that they can help to build a better world for all.

We purchase items with purpose. We prefer to buy local, from independent/small businesses. This year, our Council gifts come from Bloom Moon Designs, made by a local Métis artist. Earlier this year, we coordinated an orange shirts order with Shoni Cree’s, an Indigenous-owned shop in Ile-des-Chenes.

This year, the SRTA Executive is doing a book study, reading “52 Ways to Reconcile: How to Walk With Indigenous Peoples on the Path to Healing” by David A. Robertson. It is a wonderful resource full of practical and thoughtful actions we can incorporate into our work and our lives.

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. As we reflect on our nation’s history, we recognize where we are today and where we hope to be in the future. The SRTA is committed to continuing to move forward on the path of reconciliation, through our actions and our practices.

I am committed to continuing our efforts towards reconciliation along with Seine River’s superintendent Colin Campbell. Today is only one day dedicated to that work. #OrangeShirtDay

On Friday, I was fortunate to be able to attend smudge ceremonies at École Ste. Anne Immersion and Ste. Anne Elementary. Seine River is lucky to have elder Eric Flett and Indigenous Education consultant Chantelle Desorcy working closely with staff and students every day.

Today, SRTA members, along with students and staff in Seine River, are wearing orange to honour residential school survivors. As educators, we move forward on paths of reconciliation through our actions and words, for as long as the sun shines, the grass grows, and the river flows. #OrangeShirtDay
