Overnight court filings seem to be giving us a peek at what U.S. Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino said in his deposition so far (it apparently continues today):

Exclusive: Trump moves to fire watchdog of US housing regulator involved in crackdown, sources say The internal watchdog for the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency is being removed from his role, four people familiar with the matter said, at a time when the housing regulator is playing a role in President Donald Trump's targeting of perceived political enemies.

β€œAllen received notice of his termination from the White House after he made efforts to provide key information to prosecutors…The information he turned over was constitutionally required, two of them said…”

Toronto Will Never Get Over This | Defector Baseball makes you feel bad. I don’t mean that in a literate sense ripping off Bart Giamatti’s lede, the sense of dreading a sullen winter spent longing for the sensory pleasures of the game. I mean…

β€œI know ppl who are in the country legally and have been taken away. One was the girlfriend of our guitar technician. She had been in the US for 25 years, came in w/a visa, paid taxes. Does anyone really think "If you vote for me I will expand Medicare coverage from 10 prescription drugs to 25" is a winning message but "I will expand Medicare to children" is not?

The list of things centrists think Dems should run on is so striking. There's some good stuff in here (expand Medicare to vision & dental), but it's mostly technical tweaks and preservation of the status quo.

Like yes, ban congressional stock trading but it's not exactly a compelling vision.

Hybrid Work Is Not the Problem β€” Poor Leadership Is Workplace transformation isn’t about where people work β€” it’s about how they work together to drive outcomes.

"#Hybrid Work Is Not the Problem β€” Poor #Leadership Is"

Had a great convo about this over drinks last week and my fellow barfly and I lay the blame squarely on #management.

Without Cheney there would be no Trump. The Bush admin wanted to unify America in a militaristic, nationalist project. They succeeded, at least for a time. These days even American liberals mutter "thank you for your service" before their brains have even engaged. Cheney teed up the fascism present.

It is an area rich in Māori culture though. This is a memorial to the Aotea waka β€” one of ships which originally bought Māori to Aotearoa β€” which many Taranaki iwi whakapapa to.

PATEA: I have nothing bad to say about Patea.

It’s a lovely little place which was, in the 1920s, the largest cheese exporting port in the world.

Now thanks to capitalism: no port, no cheese, no jobs.

But imagine the effect if just one cis national treasure made a point of calling out transphobia in a speech, and explained how transphobia was truly un-feminist.

A speech somewhere that the media could not ignore, and by someone they dare not diss.

Need to find a few of those people.

Talking about letters - we need to be individually calling out journalists and editors at the Times/Telegraph for continuously publishing nonsensical non-stories like this bilge, while totally IGNORING the 60K+ letter signed by women in SUPPORT of trans people! 😣

Yes, this is me hoping a few Bluesky users will subscribe to my newsletter.

But, yes, it's also posted so people are more informed about Substack.

I'd like to see more people - writer & readers - get away from it.

Substack is a capitalist machine. It's not your friend.

Raising taxes is obviously correct. But the Labour Party should be actually brave enough to commit to a programme of progressive taxes on the wealthiest. We need to boldly invest in our country and its future, rather than wringing our hands about necessity and fiscal rules.

It's not in this article but the government asserts that the sandwich was thrown at "point blank range", which implies subway sandwiches have defined effective weapon ranges of varying lethality, and I would like to see the government's chart of these ranges.
