TW: Real life parent loss.

My mom died in 2020 from stage four lung cancer. Her name was Jayne. The J in MJ is for her. She would have been proud of the fact I'm trying to do this author thing. She loved shitty wine, the Cubs, and her three idiot kids.

#MothersDay still feels weird without her.

Everything about this is wholesome and perfect and I could cry. Icons supporting icons.

The bees and I are so ready for the weather in Chicago to stop being so messy and for spring to really be here.

The amazing news: I got offered my first adjunct professor job fresh out of my grad school program. To say I am excited is an understatement.

The sad news: The fun summer reading list I've been building up thanks to both #Booksky and threads has been replaced by this.

Some #WIPWEDNESDAY time! Page one of my Anita Blake/Dresden Files inspired "surprise, monsters are real on the 21st century" but make it queer manuscript I didn't lose earlier this week!

It's a nice balance working on it alongside the high magic fantasy novellas.

The good news: I found the file containing roughly 30K words of a manuscript I thought I lost and would have cried over.

The bad news: I'm gonna go ahead and spend the rest of the day digitally reorganizing instead of writing.

Editing a pre-gradschool manuscript for the first time since graduation. While I am so glad that I learned a lot and really got in tune with my voice and craft, I do not love how much I'm just rewriting. Perfectionism is a curse.

The sex number makes me giggle because I am a very mature adult.

165 pages read makes me feel emotional because people giving my little novella a chance. Absinthe, Alnyx, and I thank you from the bottom of our Queer little hearts. We are working on number 2 I swear.

It truly is! My sister and I are waiting for her da8ghter to be old enough so we can show her how cool that character isssss.

If you like magic, Circle of Magic in terms of her quartets for sure. It's got defying gender norms, an interesting concept for thread magic, and FOUND FAMILY GOODNESS.

I wish I could think of a good reccomendation, but all I can do is scream because SOMEONE KNOWS SABRIEL.

Those three books and everything Tamora Pierce wrote were 97% of my young adult brain. The other 3 percent? Redwall and Series of Unfortunate Events.

Honestly, I don't drop the "this book saved my life" often. But I ended up reading this for my MA program while I was also in 10 weeks of "intensive outpatient therapy" for depression. And it really brought me back to feeling like a part of the world.

Being a #QueerAuthor writing open door, spicy romance and having a supportive parent is equal parts hilarious and my nightmare. My father was WARNED, I promise. And yes, my retired dad and I DO talk in memes/GIFs. He understands me.

Wickett and I are hiding inside from the Chicago cold and working on a blanket for my dad I meant to start months ago. #knitting is my comfort craft when I'm not writing my silly queer fantasies.

I literally just mentioned you as an example when someone on another social media asked about having to "explain themselves" as an Ace and a fellow romance writer. We got layers, like onions, and we are EVERYWHERE 🖤🩶🤍💜
