This shows an antibody heavy chain successfully pairing with a surrogate light chain and signalling B cell progression. In contrast a non-pairing heavy chain fails to signal, the B cell stalls, and the suboptimal V gene is replaced by an upstream V to make a pairing heavy chain and rescue the B cell.
