4/4 Any part of anyone’s genitals can have pain with sexual activity whether it’s solo or with another person. Pelvic Physical Therapy can help if you can’t figure out what’s going on. Comments like “just relax” or “have a glass of wine” shouldn’t be what you hear from a medical provider!

3/4 the pelvic floor muscles have to be relaxed and flexible for sexual activity to be comfy. Even external stimulation can be uncomfortable if there is chronic tightness in your pelvic floor. Too much tightness can also limit good sensations!

If you’re a vagina owner, the vagina needs at least 15 mins to fully expand, move the cervix out of the way and lubricate the vaginal opening. Insertion of anything before this point could be uncomfortable!

Pelvic Health Fact #2: Pain with sex isn’t normal! Regardless of the type of sexual activity, pain doesn’t need to happen (unless you’re into that 😉) There are a lot of reasons why a sexual activity might be uncomfortable, and we can change it! 1/4

2/2 Even the inner labia, which need more thorough rinsing, don’t need soap! Yes they need attention to detail, but they are also kept safe by the acidic environment. Soaps will change that ph which will actually make the area more vulnerable to yeast growth!

Fun pelvic health fact #1: This is getting to be more common knowledge. BUT Did you know that the vagina is self cleaning, and does not need to be cleaned? Rinsing with water is great, but soap (even pH balanced body washes!) need to stay outside the vaginal opening.
