As both an illustrator AND a glitch artist, I'm not too happy about taking potshots from folks who are supposed to be on my side! I'm sure most people who make these kinds of takes actually WOULD consider my glitch stuff "real" art—because it's not AI—but they don't fully consider the reasons why.

I'm not trying to tell you that GenAI stuff definitely IS art, my ass isn't going to bat for them. But I AM saying that none of the arguments I've seen against it pass the threshold of "don't throw another very real form of art under the bus."

"Emotional effort!" Not measurable, and you can't know it from looking at something. If I doodle something while bored for five seconds it's still art, and I probably cared less about it than the guys who are so weirdly obsessed with GenAI that it's become their whole personality.

"Requires intent!" Found, accidental, some glitch.

"But a computer did it!" Generative math art, glitch, you sound like the HS art teacher who disliked tablets for no reason.

"It's stolen!" Yeah man so is all the stuff in museums, did that stop being art? See also, collage
