On a general level, if money is not a factor, it's time for them to go when they can't do basic things, things that they enjoy or need, when they are in discomfort or outright pain all the time, and keeping them around longer would simply prolong their discomfort.

My family's also been a firm believer in not prolonging the situation any longer than you absolutely must simply because we do not want to cause the animal any further suffering. They don't deserve that. So when we've seen the animal's gone down hill, it's usually time to let go sooner than later.😔

Each time the animal was clearly in poor shape. Lost weight, symptoms that clearly caused the animal discomfort, one time I could smell acetone on the breath (sign that organs are shutting down). Usually it also came down to cost. We could not afford the treatment to prolong the situation.

Speaking as someone who's worked with Capcom, stays in touch with its people, and has, shall we say, professional room to maneuver, I'll just say that contrary to what the technical director in the IGN article asserts, I know for a *fact* many Capcom employees are VEHEMENTLY against this direction.
