It has been *interesting* to watch the response of philanthropy groups over the last week. The National Council of Nonprofits has been quite active. Other defenders of charity have been in hibernation.

I completely agree with you. I worry that the implication of their message is that everyone should just throw up their hands...a dangerous choice in these times.

In what other realm is "the problem is bigger than our current solutions so let's just give up" an acceptable main idea for a NYTimes op-ed? Would we say to the medical field, the problems of human diseases are so great, you'll never make a difference...?
