We were a bit spoilt for choice but we've gone with this watercolour by Samivel. We love the use of blue and how clearly it conveys both the cold and the time it takes to climb a peak.

More archive than art but we’ll take part in today’s @artukdotorg.bsky.social #OnlineArtExchange anyway with this photograph from our collection of Victorian skaters on the frozen lake at Wanstead Park, February 1895 ⛸️

This oil painting titled "The Skaters" by Francis West depicts an indoor ice skating scene filled with dynamic figures engaged in various gestures around a skating theme. A central figure in black and blue is being lifted by someone in a red top, appearing to dance or stumble with arms extended. Around them, several others participate actively in the scene, displaying expressions of joy and surprise. On the left, two figures are down on the floor, with one wearing a red skirt and the other in a suit, as if they have fallen. In the background, figures are interacting closely, some seeming to support each other. The artwork is characterised by its muted colour palette of blues, reds, and earth tones, with simplified, smooth forms and a sense of movement throughout.
